It was 1992, the siege of Sarajevo had begun, and Jahic - then the director of the Gazi Husrev-Beg public library - had in his care a priceless, ancient collection of hand-written books and illuminated manuscripts. Get Connected: Public Access Policy Toolkit. . The Public Access Policy Toolkit looks at the different policy areas where libraries may need to advocate to ensure that all our institutions can provide internet access to their users. With much progress still needed to ensure that all libraries are connected to the internet, IFLA has worked through the Dynamic Coalition on Public Access in Libraries at the Internet Governance Forum to produce a toolkit for advocacy on this topic. The toolkit provides an overview of the different policy areas where government action is necessary. It is intended for libraries and library associations who can use the diagnostic toolkit at the beginning to choose priorities. Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, Becomes World Book Capital..... The World Book Capital programme, managed by UNESCO, has seen a series of world cities take it in turn to commit to supporting books and reading. IFLA, as a member of the Advisory Committee alongside the International Publishers Association and UNESCO, has a key role in selecting recipients and shaping the programme. The holder of the 2019 title, from 23 April 2019 until 22 April 2020, is Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates. The city has already made a significant commitment to promoting reading through its support to libraries, books in every home, and the local publishing industry.
